The film “Atbai's Fight” by Adilkhan Yerzhanov, which is now in the production stage, took part in the pitching of the KVIFF EasternPromises projects in the “Work-In-Progress” section. The pitching took place within the framework of the 54th International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, which was held from June 28 to July 6, 2019. It is the largest festival in the Czech Republic and the most prestigious in Central and Eastern Europe as well as one of the oldest A-class film festivals in the world (along with Cannes, Berlin and Venice). Its business platform is also considered as one of the most important events in the international film business.
The film tells the story of the street thug Atbai, who decides to take part in a street fight tournament, where the winners are already decided. But Atbai is going to win, because for him this victory is a chance to start a new life: to return to the big sport and to get his beloved woman back.
The role of the protagonist Atbai was played by Daniyar Alshinov. Also we will see in the film famous Kazakhstani actors Sanzhar Madi, Assel Sadvakasova and Dinara Baktybaeva. Assel Sadvakasova also is a general producer of the film. Olga Khlasheva, a producer on international promotion, and Serik Abishev, an executive producer, both have been cooperating with Yerzhanov for a long time.
“Fight scenes in the film represent existential intrapersonal conflict of Atbai, his inner fight
with himself, his weaknesses, his past and his guilt,” said the film director Adilkhan Yerzhanov about idea of the film.
At the moment, a draft version of the film is ready.
